The Surreal Life

When my dad was in his late teens, he married his high school sweetheart. After they were married, they went off to Florida because my dad was in the military and that's where he was stationed. Soon after they were married they had a daughter named Nicole. Shortly after Nicole, a boy was born, named Dustin. When Dustin was still an infant, my dad and his wife started having irreconcilable problems and divorced. My dad then moved to Louisiana, where he commuted back and forth between Florida and Louisiana to see his kids and somewhere in the mix, things changed and soon, my dad lost all contact with his ex-wife and the kids.

To this day, I don't exactly know what happened. I don't know how they grew apart and how my dad left them. I've known since as long as I can remember, that I have a brother and a sister somewhere out there. I've felt love for Nicole and Dustin, despite me never physically meeting them. Like a mom loves their unborn children, it was the same way. I've imagined my whole life meeting them, talking to them, knowing them. I've imagined what they looked like. I've imagined what their spouses looked like and what their kids looked like. However, my brothers and I didn't know where to begin searching and it all seemed overwhelming to us. All that changed in a matter of seconds...

I'm happy to say, as of July 6th, 2011, I know my brother and sister.

My brother got a phone call from my Aunt Sherri, my dad's sister. She told Jacob that she got in contact with the daughter of my dad's ex-wife's current husband, also Nicole and Dustin's half sister. She told their sister who she was and the situation and come to find out, it was, in fact, the family we had been search for so long. After some time, we added Nicole and Dustin on Facebook and had our first conversations with our long lost siblings.

Nicole told me how overwhelmed she was. I can't imagine waking up one morning with a brother and a sister and going to sleep having 3 brothers and 2 sisters. We talked about her and her family. She asked questions about my dad. She also had many questions about me. She wanted to know all about me and my future plans and my favorite music and my boyfriend and so much more. She wanted to get to know her little sister! The moment I have been dreaming of for 16 years was actually happening.

This morning, I had my first conversation with my oldest brother, Dustin. He was awesome. He wanted to know everything about me, once again. He had no questions for me about my dad or anything like that. He wanted to know how long I have been cheering and what kind of things I like to write about. It was such an overwhelming feeling of LOVE I had toward my brother and sister. It was surreal.

On top of a brother and sister, I now have a brother-in-law. Nicole's husband, Kevin, along with a BEAUTIFUL 9 year old niece, Kylee, who participates in pageants in Ohio and was Ms. Ohio Sweetheart. Also, I have the world's cutest 3 year old nephew, Kaleb, who has the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen! I'm so blessed to be adding these new additions to my family.

It's very overwhelming for my brother and sister. They never knew about us, although have questioned it before. We, however, always knew this day was coming and were prepared. I am so incredibly thrilled for the day where they accept me, Joshuah, and Jacob as their brother and sister AND for the day where we get to meet them in person!

Ya'll, I'm an aunt. I HAVE A SISTER NOW! And ANOTHER brother!! I'm so happy.

Love & Creep,
Jess
