Hoping to find a loving, inspirational definition of Valentine's Day on Urbandictionary.com? Well, it probably isn't your best bet to find joy. The first page consists of curse words and words like "lonely" and "depressed" and "suicidal". I'm no Dr. Phil, but these people need some t-h-e-r-a-p-y.
If I had to define February 14th, I'd describe it as a regular day where people in relationships go above and beyond their usual, and people who aren't in relationships hate on people who are. Now that just ruins the fun for everyone! Personally, my valentine's day with my technical someone was a usual day, since the circumstances bite and have always bitten. But, that didn't really ruin it because I still enjoyed our "date". Sure it could have been a lot better, and I could have hated on those who have someone close (aka been jealous), but come on now, people. You're depressed because you're 16 or 17 and single. You're way too young to be p.oed you don't have a guy or girl. If you're 47, have 12 cats, 7 turtles, and a boa constrictor and live in your mom's attic, maybe. But not when you're a teenager. You have the rest of your life to find your special someone.
There has been countless divorces and separations and break-ups between people in my family that I remember saying how in love they were. Seeing these failed relationships could have easily strained my views on love or I guess I should say my views on "love". However, my views on love have always been and will always be biblical. Being raised in a thoroughly Christian home, and seeing the love that my mother and step-father have for one another has taught me things along the way. Seeing these failed marriages and relationships have also taught me things. I feel that the road to maturity consists of learning through other people's mistakes, not necessarily your own. I mean, I could be wrong. I'm literally just a teenager with a lot of opinions on a lot of things. Let's all agree to disagree and pray midnight/February 15th comes soon. However, never take who you love for granted. They might be in the same room, they might be a 25 pound Boston Terrier, they might be Edward Cullen, they might in in Las Vegas, they might be in Florida. But never, ever, ever, in a gazillion years, take who you love for granted.
Happy Valentine's Day to the single, and the taken, and to the ones partying with the girls tonight. To the widowed, the married, the sick, the healthy. The ones together, the ones far apart. Happy Valentine's Day to the newlyweds and the ones married for 50 years. To the young, the old, and everyone in between.
LOVE & creep,
Jess
